Paul
Quinn College, in keeping with the modus operandi of similar institutions
of higher education, has a General Education
Core Curriculum in operation. The underlying
purpose of this core curriculum is to
expose the student in the first two
years of his/her college life, to
experiences which are structured to facilitate
successful retention and graduation and more specifically, enable
the student to make intelligent choices of his/her
academic and career goals. In accordance with this principle and
within this liberal arts framework, a declaration of a major is not
formally recognized by Paul Quinn College and other similarly
situated educational institutions until the
sophomore year has been successfully completed. All students,
therefore, who are duly enrolled at and expect to obtain
|
the
stamp of approval from Paul Quinn College,
must meet the requirements of the
General Education Core Curriculum of the
College. No academic major, totally controlled
by the College, is exempted from these
requirements. More specifically, the
purpose of the General Education Core is
to foster knowledge, skills, appreciation,
and attitudes that will enhance the
individual's quality of life. A
student who completes these requirements will have a
solid foundation in the humanities, social sciences,
natural sciences, and mathematics.
