Paul Quinn College currently belongs to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) in the Red River Athletic Conference. The College offers comprehensive intercollegiate athletic programs for men and women.  The athletic programs include the sports of Football, Men and Women Basketball, Track and Field, Volleyball, and Baseball. The College teams have won sixteen conference championships since 1983.  The men’s basketball team won the NSCAA National Championship in 1990 and 1995 and most recently, our Track team is the current 2005-2006 and 2006-2007 Red River Track Champions.

WACO, Texas – Chelsea Jones of Southwestern Assemblies of God University (Texas) received the Red River Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week honor for Feb. 18-24, and Damien Chisholm of Paul Quinn College (Texas) was selected for the RRAC men’s weekly award for the same dates.

Jones, a freshman forward from San Antonio, Texas, posted double-figures in both points and rebounding in both of the Lady Lions’ wins last week. She scored 17 points and snared 13 rebounds in a 67-42 win over Texas College, and she produced 20 points and 11 boards en route to a 65-51 victory over Bacone College (Okla.). For the week, Jones was 10-of-23 shooting from the field (43.5%) and 5-of-9 from three-point range. She added seven assists and four steals as SAGU moved closer to a conference tournament berth with a 3-10 record against RRAC opponents and a 6-20 mark overall.

Chisholm, a senior guard from Huntsville, Ala., paved the way to two conference victories for the Tigers with 23.0 points per game last week. He accounted for 22 points and four three-pointers in a 77-74 win over the NAIA’s 15th-ranked team, Texas Wesleyan University last Monday. Chisholm followed with 24 points on Saturday, connecting on 8-of-14 field goal attempts in an 88-77 victory over Langston University (Okla.). He was 16-of-27 from the field for the week (59.3%),
7-of-11 from behind the three-point arc and 7-of-8 from the free throw line. PQC moved into a tie for fourth in the RRAC at 8-6 with a mark of 12-12 on the season.

Additional women’s nominees included Brittney Brown of Jarvis Christian College (Texas), TWU’s Kim Gatlin and Langston’s Dominique Thomas. Langston’s Geremie Allison, TWU’s Dane Dmitrovic, JCC’s Aaron Lesane and SAGU’s Jake Sones were nominated for the men’s award this week.
