Basketball Coach Marco Borne's Bio

Paul Quinn has turned to its neighboring state of Louisiana to find its new basketball coach, hiring Marco Borne as the new floor leader of the Tiger’s program. The 35-year old Borne brings with him over 10 years of coaching experience.

Coach Borne has spent the past two seasons coaching at Helen Cox High School in Harvey, LA where he helped lead the school to back to back undefeated district championships and a Louisiana State Championship in 2009. During his time at Helen Cox, nine players signed college scholarships, including Greg Monroe, who was rated the number one high school player in the country by rivals.com.
Before joining Helen Cox staff in 2007, Borne presided over NAIA Southern University of New Orleans (SUNO) where he led the Knights to a ranking as high as 14th in the NAIA national polls. Despite a huge disadvantage of playing no home games and having only six players in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, Coach Borne finished the season 19-9. During that season Coach Borne led SUNO to its first ever win over division I opponent, Alcon State, and defeated conference foe Belhaven College although his team played the entire overtime period with only four players.
Coach Borne received his first head coaching opportunity from his alma mater Dillard University where he guided the NAIA program from 2000-2004 compiling a record of 69-27. Under Coach Borne’s watchful eye Dillard enjoyed its most successful four year period. The Blue Devils made three consecutive trips to the NAIA National Tournament. Borne also led Dillard to a Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Title, a Gulf Coast Athletic Conference tournament championship and two GCAC tournament runner-up finishes including a Sweet 16 National Tournament finish.

Borne is the youngest coach in the history of the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference to lead a team to a conference championship and a National Tournament appearance. He is also the only coach in the history of the Dillard men's basketball program to lead three consecutive teams to the NAIA National Tournament. His 72% overall winning percentage is the highest in Dillard's history. Coach Borne also coached only the fourth team in NAIA history to an upset of the top-seeded team, Houston Baptist, in the first round of the NAIA National Tournament in 2003. His 2001-2002 Dillard team ranked fifth nationally in the NAIA, the highest ranking in school history.

Coach Borne’s strengths as a master tactician, an innovator, and a defensive specialist have long been known throughout the NAIA coaching circles. His dogged determination and tireless work ethic either on the recruiting trail or on the playing court are trademarks of his. Coach Borne is also a true advocate for education. Every student-athlete that played as a senior for Coach Borne received a college degree.
Many of Borne’s previous teams have featured a precise style of offense which helps his teams shoot high field goal percentages and have been crowd pleasers. He relies on tough physical man-to-man defense and his teams have always been ranked high in defense field goal percentage and rebounding margin.

Borne received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Educational Studies from Dillard University in 1997. He later obtained his Master of Education, Human Performance and Heath Promotion from the University of New Orleans in 2006. Coach Borne is a native of New Orleans, LA and a lifetime fan of the Dallas Cowboys.
