Grant Writing & Fundraising I – ENGL 6000         

This course will focus on the basics of grant-writing.  It will provide basic and intermediate training in the art of
writing effective grants.  It will explore the various entities and government agencies offering grants.
(Course offered twice in the semester)

This course will provide fun and easy instruction in order to build great chess skills.  There will also be time
for games and guided analysis.

Elementary Spanish I – SPAN 7500 

This is a course which leads toward a certification.  It stresses acquisition of the four basic skills; speaking,
listening comprehension, reading and writing.  Computer, video and audio assignments are required.  After the
successful completion of 4 semesters, the students need to pass a proficiency exam in order to obtain a
certificate of basic Spanish proficiency.  Textbook will be provided.

Medical Spanish I – SPAN 7600

This course will provide the essential Spanish language skills for professionals in the medical field It hopes to
assists professionals in the medical field to conduct an examination, collect personal and medical data from
patients whose native language is Spanish and they speak either no or limited English.  This course will
emphasize basic grammar, pronunciation and healthcare setting dialogs.  Specialized medical vocabulary and
idioms will be covered.

ELI 1300 Entrepreneur Leadership Institute – BUSA 8100   

The three-week course is designed to provide insight into the characteristics and skills needed to become a successful entrepreneur.  Specific instruction will be provided in an effort to develop an effective business plan, secure funding for the endeavor, effective marketing to get products to the consumers, product presentations, and customer service in order to maintain a stable customer base.  This seminar will provide students with the entrepreneurial leadership skill sets, career awareness, and academic training necessary to preparing them for global challenges and responsibilities.  This course can be taken to satisfy the requirement for BUSA 1301 Introduction to business.

This is the first in a series of courses leading toward a certification in Technical Writing.  This course includes some Linguistics content on language acquisition and development, the history of the English language and dialects of American English and problems of American usage, moving to the study of major rhetoricians from antiquity to contemporary times.  The main focus is on rhetorical techniques in technical writing.
