Business Administration

The goals of the Business Administration program is to provide students with a broad background for careers in business, accounting, human resources management, entrepreneurship, marketing, fundraising, development or graduate level programs in business administration or other related fields and to provide students with a quality education that would allow them to be successful in technology-based business systems in either the public or private sector.

Program Learning Outcomes for Business Administration

  1. Interpret the key concepts and practices in the core business functions (Accounting, Marketing, Management, Entrepreneurship, Statistics, and the Business Legal system)
  2. Apply current business principles to analyze business problems and create realistic solutions
  3. Effectively communicate business information in writing (such as email, memos, press announcements, business letters, resumes) and produce well-organized oral presentations
  4. Analyze quantitative or qualitative data required to make accurate business decisions
  5. Apply principles of business ethics and social responsibility to resolve ethical dilemmas

Accounting: Accounting at Paul Quinn College prepares students to pursue careers in finance, banking, auditing, or government. The program also provides students with the knowledge and skills needed for positions in business and the public sectors.  In addition, te program prepares students to enter graduate school for a Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) or a Master of Science (M.S.) in business or related fields.  Students who complete the Accounting program are eligible to become certified public accountants (C.P.A.).

Entrepreneurship: Entrepreneurship at Paul Quinn College both empowers students to create opportunities for communities via diverse business practices and also uniquely includes the principles of social entrepreneurship to become problem solvers. The program provides students with the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in the private sector and to successfully open and operate businesses. Students will be prepared to pursue an M.B.A. or an M.S. in business or related fields. Students will also learn to write business plans and understand the process of identifying and securing investors as well as capital resources for entrepreneurial endeavors.

Fundraising & Philanthropy: As one of the few institutions of higher learning in America and the only Historically Black College or University (HBCU) in America to offer this degree option, Quinnites receiving this degree will begin their professional careers with a very real advantage over their competition. The international demand for fundraising professionals and the rising popularity of philanthropy has fueled the creation of this highly innovative new discipline. The study of Fundraising and Philanthropy leads to careers in institutional advancement for colleges and universities, event planning, foundation leadership, and grant writing and development.

Management: The mission of the Management program is to provide a broad business background and the professional skills that students will need for careers in business or the public sector. The program provides training for career options that include: human resources management, entrepreneurship, and marketing.  In addition, it prepares students to enter graduate school for an M.B.A. or M.S. in business or related fields.
