Paul Quinn College has been recognized by Ebony as one of the top liberal arts HBCUs in America. The recognition comes as a part of the magazine’s “2012 HBCU Special: Head of Class” feature in the September 2012 issue, which is now available. The list is not a ranking according to the author, Nick Chiles. Chiles writes that Paul Quinn “regularly shows up on lists of the most underrated HBCUs.” Chiles also writes that PQC earned the recognition due to “the initiatives of vibrant President Michael J. Sorrell” along with the College’s business casual dress code and the WE Over Me Farm.
The College has been nationally recognized for its progress on a consistent basis over the past two years. In 2011, HBCU Digest recognized Paul Quinn as one of the “Most Underrated HBCUs” on the “The Digest Five” list. The same year, PQC was awarded “HBCU of the Year” by the Center for HBCU Media Advocacy, Inc.; and Paul Quinn was also recognized as one of the “Top 10 Historically Black College and University Successes of 2011” by The Huffington Post. The College’s most recent awards include 2012 HBCU Male President of the Year, 2012 HBCU SGA of the Year, and a nomination for 2012 HBCU Male Student of the Year (Center for HBCU Media Advocacy, Inc.).
