The Quinnite Nation earned three spots on the Dallas Weekly's "25 People to Watch" list for 2013. Three women, Bishop Vashti McKenzie, State Rep. Toni Rose, and T'Edra Jackson, were featured when the Dallas Weekly released the list on Feb. 27.
The legendary Bishop McKenzie has been a Texas since she took over the Tenth District of the AME Church, to which Paul Quinn belongs. Not only did she make history as the first female bishop of the AME Church but she is also the first female bishop in Texas. America was introduced to Bishop McKenzie during the 2012 Democratic National Convention when she provided the opening prayer and delivered the Democratic National Committee's giving a report as chair of the Credentials Committee. Most recently Bishop McKenzie also took over as chair of Paul Quinn's Board of Trustees.
Rep. Rose is an alumna of Paul Quinn and she is a freshman legislator who represents District 110, which covers southern Dallas and parts of Mesquite and Balch Springs. Having served as a mental health and criminal justice professional for over 20 years, Rep. Rose has been appointed to the Corrections and Human Services Committees in the state's House of Representatives.
Jackson was crowned Miss Paul Quinn College 2012-2013 and has made several appearances throughout the Dallas area. The Baton Rouge, Louisiana native is a sophomore Business Administration major with a concentration in Management; and she has made her mark as the first Paul Quinn student to be accepted into the INROADS program. Jackson also interned with the City of DeSoto and the City of Dallas as a part of the Dr. Emmett J. Conrad Leadership Program.
