PAUL QUINN COLLEGE TO CHALLENGE SACS RULING

Paul Quinn College was notified earlier today that the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) voted to remove the College  from the SACS membership status. The Paul Quinn College community is disappointed by the ruling and stands united behind the College administration’s decision to appeal.

“We feel strongly about the progress we have made during the last two years,” said Paul Quinn College President Michael J. Sorrell, Esq. “And we are optimistic about our chances on appeal.”

The College will conduct a news conference Friday, June 26, 2009 at noon in the Board Room of the Adams Administration Building, where President Sorrell and members of the Board of Trustees will discuss the ruling and future plans.

ABOUT PAUL QUINN COLLEGE

Paul Quinn College was founded by a small group of African Methodist Episcopal circuit-riding preachers in Austin, Texas in 1872. The College was later relocated to Waco. In 1990, under the leadership of Dr. Warren W. Morgan, Paul Quinn College relocated to Dallas, Texas. The first semester in its new home began on September 20, 1990, with an enrollment of 1,020 students. Atty. Michael J. Sorrell became interim president in 2007, and was eventually named President in 2008.

The mission of the College is to provide a quality, faith-based education that addresses the academic, social, and Christian development of students and prepares them to be servant leaders and agents of change in their communities.
