Dear Students, Parents and Colleagues:
The Paul Quinn College family joins the rest of
the nation in grieving over the loss and
injuries of students at Northern Illinois
University in Dekalb. This senseless
and cowardly act serves to remind us all of how
fragile our existence is, even in the idyllic
setting of the collegiate environment.
|
I would like to take this moment, while we
grieve, to reacquaint everyone in our community
with the College’s Emergency Response Plan, more
specifically our crisis management procedures.
Our crisis management procedures have been
prepared by a special subcommittee consisting of
the Psychological/Social/Diagnostic Services
Department’s crisis team and the departmental
Advisory Board’s suicide and crisis management
committee. It is intended to be used by
administrators for quick reference to procedures
that enhance responses to any one of a wide
range of possible situations affecting the Paul
Quinn College community.
The subcommittee members have developed a set of
procedures for the management of specific crisis
situations. Having assisted individuals
recovering from major crises, these
professionals understand the importance of
prompt crisis management in the college
environment. The Paul Quinn College
community is extremely grateful for their
contribution.
You will find attached to this letter our
“Emergency Response Quick List” (ERQL).
The ERQL was taken from our Emergency Response
Plan and is designed to provide students,
parents, faculty and staff with direction of how
to respond in an emergency. Among the
items that it includes are the following:
1.
Emergency Telephone Numbers
2.
Directions on
how to respond to:
A)
B)
C)
D) |
An accident with severe injuries to one
or more students
An assault of a student on campus
A bomb threat
A hostage taking or sniper gunfire
|
We hope that no one associated with our campus
community will ever need the information we’re
providing you. However, in our efforts to
provide the safest, most secure educational
experience for the students, we feel that it is
a necessity to be prepared for all possible
occurrences.
Please do not hesitate to contact my office
directly, 214-302-3550, with any questions or
concerns.
Sincerely,
Michael J. Sorrell
President
